Health Literacy: Communicating with Older Adults

Effective communication between the patient, their providers, and their support system is one of the key factors in promoting health literacy in the healthcare field. It’s a fast-paced and ever-changing world full of stressors, multiple transitions, and complex situations. How can we, as healthcare providers, do better in positively communicating the health needs of our patients in a way to reduce internal liabilities, improve the quality of the experience, provide adequate information, and promote compliance to solutions? This presentation will help to explore in more detail the methods of communication used, the biases held that affect communication, the realities of the interaction, and ways to promote health literacy for our patients and their support networks
