Denise Corcoran and Jeana Fortenberry have recently provided the Virtual Dementia Tour experience for two communities, Chambrel at Roswell and Bickford of Alpharetta.

The purpose of these tours is to provide each participant an up-close, hands-on experience, and critical insight for each person caring for someone with dementia. These tours increase awareness of this difficult disease, and set the stage for better care for those living with dementia.
The Virtual Dementia Tour is always a powerful experience for participants. Some recent participants have commented:

  • “Is this what my husband (with dementia) experiences?”
  • “Wow! I need some time to process this.”
  • “I am so glad that I did this. I understand my mom’s behavior better now.”
  • “I am going to tell my friend about this. She needs to experience it so she can help her mother better.”

It takes a lot of “hands” to make the VDT successful. We want to thank the staffs at Chambrel and Bickford of Alpharetta for their excellent hosting and generous gift of time to make everything run smoothly. We also want to thank our partners who gave their time and expertise so willingly to make the events successful for participants: Caroline Ventry with A Place For Mom, Robin Ralph with Compassionate Care Hospice, Al Smith with Aberdeen Place Hospice, Gary Kitchen with LMK Foundation, and John Butler with Family Private Care. We couldn’t have done it without these wonderful colleagues.
