Laughter Is The Best Medicine
[toggle title=”Overview” bgcolor=”” textcolor=”#0099cc” bordercolor=”#0099cc” opacity=””]What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul (Yiddish proverb)… this might be a truer statement than we would think. Humor is infectious. The sound of roaring laughter is far more contagious than any cough, sniffle or sneeze. Laughter triggers healthy physical changes in our body. Best of all, laughter is fun, free and easy to use!! In this informative and engaging presentation, John Butler, BA, MS – with over 6 years of experience in dealing with geriatric clients and families – will explore some physical benefits of laughter and show you how humor is used in medical settings. He will also describe different hospital programs that use humor. While humor can be a powerful antidote to stress, pain and conflict, it also has boundaries and we need to be aware of when humor may not be appropriate. This presentation will also provide examples of laughing exercises that we can do with our patients/clients.
