Since November is National Home Care month, let’s celebrate by discussing what home care is and how it can help families in need. A basic definition of home care is “Personal Home Care for a client in their home, hospital or facility, or wherever they may call home.”

The most common assistance required by aging adults is provided by Personal Home Care Assistants, Home Health Aides, or Certified Nursing Assistants, commonly referred to as a personal aide. Some of the activities a personal aide can perform are as follows: Assistance with bathing, dressing, toileting, walking, transfers, meal preparation, errands, medication reminders, cleaning client’s room and bathroom, laundry and changing linens. This kind of help can be a lifesaver, literally, for clients and their families!

Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses are available to assist with more skilled tasks, such as wound care, trachs, IVs, vents, medication administration and other specialized care tasks. RNs and LPNS can provide the higher level care that allows many clients with advanced ALS or traumatic brain injury (just to name a couple diagnoses of many that benefit from skilled nursing) to remain in the comfort of home.

If that type of help sounds like something you could benefit from, we encourage you to consider how a home care personal aide or nurse could come alongside you and help. Family Private Care has been providing exceptional and skilled care providers to families for over 24 years. We have experience and passion- we desire to serve our families by providing the best possible caregivers. Rosalyn Carter once stated, “There are only four kinds of people in this world. Those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers and those who will need a caregiver. While you may not need assistance now, you might require it in the future. Knowing the options and care that is available is critical in the decision making process.

It seems caregiving is an inevitable part of our aging process. Let’s celebrate the help we can receive in using Home Care! Family Private Care would love to help you and your family navigate this process. Feel free to reach out to us today to learn more about us and our services!
