There are millions of family caregivers in the United States who care for their loved ones. One thing they often hear is, “Take care of yourself first so you are healthy to care for your elderly mom, dad, or other family member.” Indeed, taking care of ourselves first is an important step in providing that invaluable care for seniors. Read on for an important tip for all of us, whether we are a family caretaker, professional caregiver or anyone else!
Maintaining a healthy weight is important to our overall health. There are those of us who have struggled with doing this our entire lives. I recently learned about “leptin resistance” and weight loss and would like to share some of that with you.
Leptin is a hormone secreted by fat cells whose job is to signal the hypothalamus to turn off the hunger switch. Sounds good, right? If you have developed “leptin resistance” the signal cannot be received by the brain, and you still feel hungry. As you can imagine, feeling hungry all the time makes it almost impossible to diet and lose weight.
Being overweight for an extended period can cause leptin resistance. The good news is it can be corrected! Following a specific food plan which is low in carbohydrates and fruits but high in protein and vegetables can correct this problem. The book The Fat Resistant Diet offers and excellent plan to follow with yummy recipes.
If you struggle with your weight, I encourage you to explore more information about “leptin resistance” and try following a food plan to correct it.
