Support Groups

Family Private Care realizes the value of support groups that are focused on helping people deal with and process the sometimes nasty stuff life throws our way. Anything from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s Disease, ALS, to loss of a loved one can be a very heavy burden to bear alone. We have certainly experienced that being a part of a support group can help us as we carry some immense loads.

We offer guest speakers and group facilitators to assist support groups across the north Georgia and central Alabama regions. If you would like help finding an appropriate support group, or you have a support group and need some help with it, give us a call.

Here is the background on one of our experts we have on staff:

Katie Tantillo has a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University, where her focus was on geriatric mental health care services. She has served in a variety of capacities doing crisis counseling, substance abuse counseling and Hospice and grief counseling for older adults. She also served as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Palm Beach State College, where she taught courses in human development, abnormal psychology and death and dying. She has led over 20 support groups at various times in her career and has a passion for allowing older adults and their families have a strong voice in their healthcare choices. Currently, Katie serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Family Private Care, a private duty home care company in Atlanta.

Some topics Katie has led before for support groups:

  • Death and dying
  • AA – co facilitator of an AA group
  • My parents are old and I’m getting older- now what?!
  • Loss of a parent
  • Loss of a spouse
  • Severe mental illness (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc).

Most importantly for every person going through a difficult time in life is to remember that you do not need to be alone. There are people who love you (even if they don’t yet know you!) and want nothing more than to help you through your time of need. Remember, we can help you find a support group if you need assistance. We are here for you!
